Sacramento, Sacramento County
Sacramento has been the capital of California since 1854. The domed Capitol was built between 1860 and 1874, and the Legislature has met there since 1869. Its historic rooms were restored in a project finished in 1982. Capitol Park surrounds the building with trees gathered from around the world, a short walk from downtown offices.
